Practicing Devotion: The Words I Needed to Hear

So many times I open my devotional reading for the day, read the Scripture verse, and marvel, “Those were the words I needed to hear.”

There are 727,969 words in my Bible (I had to Google that one). How is it then that the 30 or so words that are in today’s verse are just the right ones? And this happens often!

I work for Bible League Canada, the publisher of the Be Still Devotional Day Planner. I know that the preparations, including the Bible verse choices, begin eight to ten months before it goes to print. So how does it happen?

This devotional is part of my day, every day: the daily pages where I journal my prayers and plan out my week; the monthly calendars to keep track of important dates; the daily Bible reading plan and more.

Here’s the best part: funds from the sale of  Bible League Canada’s Be Still Devotional Day Planner are used to place a Bible in the hands of someone eagerly waiting for one! Now my devotional book is serving me, and others!

Producing Scripture resources for Canadians is an important component of Bible League Canada’s broader mission. We believe Canadians, young and old, need the Living Word of God more than anything else. Providing resources to engage Canadians with the Living Word—the Bible—is crucial.

For several years Bible League Canada has partnered with One Hope Canada to provide Bibles and other Scripture resources for youth summer camps and leadership training sessions. In-depth engagement with the Bible while spending time in God’s creation has proven to be a combination that resonates with kids.

Canadian ministry focus

This year, the increasing need for a strong Canadian ministry focus in Canada saw Bible League Canada launching Converge Canada.

Canadian ministry focus

This year, the increasing need for a strong Canadian ministry focus in Canada saw Bible League Canada launching Converge Canada.

Converge Canada strategically brings together Canadian Bible-centric ministries who believe all people need Jesus, to expand their reach to see people transformed by the Living Word of God. The resources Bible League Canada publishes and sources are key components in their Bible engagement strategy to reach young Canadians for Christ.

So how did it happen, that “those words I needed to hear” were there at just the right time?

I believe the Holy Spirit prepares my heart: to read the words, receive them, and use them. I believe He prepares the heart of every believer, so that by His Spirit, all people everywhere will be transformed by the Living Word of God!

Annette Klingenberg is Managing Editor for Bible League Canada, and passionate about giving everyone the opportunity to read and hear the life-changing Word of God.
