Are You a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

We have a choice when it comes to how we interact with the culture around us. We can either be a thermometer or a thermostat.

A thermometer reflects reality. If it shows -40 C outside, we react by pulling out our fur-lined parkas and giant snow boots. A thermostat is controlled by the user. We dictate the desired temperature: hot, cold or in between.

As we lead the children in our lives, we can choose to be a thermometer or a thermostat with our presence and attitude. We can reflect current reality (thermometer) or we can intentionally create a good-news environment that reflects the love and grace of Jesus in every aspect of our lives (thermostat).

We may know the right things to say and know the importance of saying them. However, we need to be intentional with the environment we create as we lead our children. Any environment that is not a good-news environment will eventually sabotage our efforts of sharing the Gospel with the children we love.

If we are not careful, we will miss out on the good things God has in store for us as we share the best news this world has ever known.

Watch our five-part video series to help you in your quest to create an environment that will foster your children’s understanding and help them grow in their love for Jesus.
