About Us-One Hope Canada

Thousands of kids and families in Canada don’t know about Jesus…yet.

Bringing the hope of the Gospel to those who have the least opportunity to hear of Christ.

Our Calling

The purpose that has fuelled us since 1927

More than half of the children and youth who take part in One Hope Canada’s camps or community ministries have little to no knowledge of Jesus or the Bible. Many come from difficult backgrounds.

This is our calling: to share the good news of the Gospel with these children, youth, and families—those who have the least opportunity to hear of Christ. It is a goal unchanged since our founding in 1927 as Canadian Sunday School Mission.

At that time, hundreds of families lived and worked throughout rural Canada. They lived far from churches that could share with them the hope of Christ. They too were “those with the least opportunity to hear.”

So we went to them. Through the leadership of Rev. J. Lloyd Hunter (pictured with his wife, Bertha), God led the first missionaries to gather children in school houses and homes for Sunday schools. They taught the Bible, shared the Gospel, and reached whole families. They set up tents and called them Bible camps, inviting these same children, and they came. These boys and girls were eager to have fun and hungry to know more of Jesus.

A leader in Gospel-focused children’s ministry, One Hope Canada is uniquely positioned to engage the youngest generations—particularly those least likely to encounter Christian teachings— with the life-changing power of Jesus’ good news.

More than 30,000 children and youth visit 42 Bible camps and community ministries coast-to-coast each year. They are served by 150 year-round missionaries, more than 1,000 summer missionaries, 300-plus volunteer board members, and thousands of other volunteers, prayer team members, and church partners.

In addition to operating Bible camps and community ministries, One Hope Canada champions digital discipleship through our FaithSpark app, and creates Gospel-centered training resources in English and in French.

Committed to inclusivity and non-discrimination since 1927, One Hope Canada strives to share Jesus Christ’s love with all, regardless of background, fostering an environment of dignity and respect for everyone.

Our Commitment

Community-Focused

We empower ministry at a local level, under-girding it with a solid support system honed by years of on-the-ground experience, steeped in the unchanging message of the Gospel. Local church connection is at the heart of what we do, as we work together to create, and support, meaningful ministry opportunities.

Accessible

It is our deep conviction that the Gospel be available and accessible for all. We remove barriers—financial and otherwise—to the best of our ability, creating spaces and resources that are diverse in their approach to sharing the good news of Jesus, and affordable for all.

Innovative

We champion Spirit-led innovation that points to the unchanging message of the Gospel. We consistently look for the best way to connect with those we serve, and are not afraid to try new ideas. We are aware of the current cultural climate; we innovate from a Gospel-perspective, showing love and compassion always.
