This verse may be one of the best-known concerning children. Yet remarkably, it\u2019s just one of about 1,700 Bible references that mention God\u2019s love for children, His concern for uncared for or mistreated children, the roles or responsibilities of parents, and the particular ways in which children are essential partners in God\u2019s kingdom plan.<\/span><\/p>

So what does the Bible say about children\u2019s ministry? Here are 15 key texts from the Bible that capture the essence of children\u2019s ministry:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t

It\u2019s seeing children as a gift from God.<\/b> \u201cChildren are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him\u201d (<\/span>Psalm 127:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s welcoming children.<\/b> \u201cSee that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven\u201d (<\/span>Matthew 18:10<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s pointing children in the right direction.<\/b> \u201cStart children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it\u201d (<\/span>Proverbs 22:6<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s engaging children with God\u2019s Word. <\/b>\u201cImpress them (the Scriptures) on your children\u201d (<\/span>Deuteronomy 6:7<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s drawing children to Jesus. <\/b>\u201cJesus said, \u2018Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these’\u201d (<\/span>Matthew 19:14<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s encouraging children to praise and worship God.<\/b> \u201cFrom the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise\u201d (<\/span>Matthew 21:16b<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s training children to follow Jesus. <\/b>\u201cParents, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord\u201d (<\/span>Ephesians 6:4<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s teaching children to honour their parents.<\/b> \u201cChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. \u2018Honour your father and mother\u2019\u2014which is the first commandment with a promise\u2014\u2018so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth\u2019\u201d (<\/span>Ephesians 6:1-3<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s exercising God-patterned discipline to correct foolishness. <\/b>\u00a0\u201cAll children are foolish, but firm correction will make them change\u201d (<\/span>Proverbs 22:15<\/span><\/a> CEV).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s protecting children.<\/b> \u201cBy faith Moses\u2019 parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king\u2019s edict\u201d (<\/span>Hebrews 11:23<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s considering children as examples of humility.<\/b> \u201cTruly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it\u201d (<\/span>Mark 10:15<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s helping children develop an informed and active faith. <\/b>\u201cMy people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old\u2014things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done\u201d (<\/span>Psalm 78:1-4<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s including children as dynamic participants in God\u2019s mission.<\/b> \u201cAssemble the people\u2014men, women and children \u2026 so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law\u201d (<\/span>Deuteronomy 31:12<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s appreciating the insight and understanding children have about the things of God.<\/b> \u201cJesus said, \u2018I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children\u2019\u201d (<\/span>Matthew 11:25<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s valuing how God uses children for special ministry tasks. <\/b>\u201cThen Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, \u2018Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, \u2018Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.\u2019\u201d (<\/span>1 Samuel 3:8-9<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

And three children\u2019s ministry concerns:<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s recognizing that children are frequently exploited.<\/b> \u201cThe fatherless child is snatched from the breast; the infant of the poor is seized for a debt\u201d (<\/span>Job 24:9<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s knowing that children can be victims of hunger and poverty.<\/b> \u201cLacking clothes, they go about naked; they carry the sheaves, but still go hungry\u201d (<\/span>Job 24:10<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

It\u2019s decrying the fact that children are sometimes abused. <\/b>\u201cThey cast lots for my people and traded boys for prostitutes; they sold girls for wine to drink\u201d (<\/span>Joel 3:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>

In regards to these three concerns; there are many passages of Scripture that indicate how God acts in defense of children. God says, \u201cEven the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children\u201d (<\/span>Isaiah 49:25<\/span><\/a>, ESV).<\/span><\/p>

Even though we live in the now but not yet, we find comfort in God\u2019s promise of the future kingdom where children will be safe. \u201cThe wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them\u201d (<\/span>Isaiah 11:6<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>
