We need your help

"It started in mid-July with an urgent message: we really need male cabin leaders for the pre-teen camp."

September 17, 2018

Dear Friend,

My name is Ferdi van Dongen, chair of One Hope Canada’s National Board. I have been a board member since 1995. What a humbling experience over the years to see God use this mission to reach children and youth with the Gospel. I was privileged to be on the National Board during the transformation years that saw CSSM Ministries develop into One Hope Canada.

And how reassuring to see the mission steadily moving forward with a renewed vision and an effective structure that has the same ministry goal—to reach the unreached. Our purpose statement puts it nicely: “We present the Gospel, particularly to those having the least opportunity to hear of Christ and especially to children and youth, and we disciple believers for living and serving through His Church”.

With summer about to wave goodbye, I was asked by our National Director Team, Bill and Bev McCaskell, to describe my exciting week at Valley View Bible Camp, near MacGregor, Manitoba.

It started in mid-July with an urgent message: we really need male cabin leaders for the pre-teen camp. I had lots of reasons why I shouldn’t respond, but God spoke clearly to me that I should contact the camp’s program coordinator, Michael Bergen.

I was a co-cabin leader with Everett, a young man with much camp experience (for which I was most thankful!) Although initially nervous, I was quickly accepted by the summer ministry team and the 9- to 11-year-old boys in our cabin. I learned that one-on-one chats are important opportunities to share the Gospel with churched or non-churched campers. Bonus: getting blessed with solid Gospel teaching and great food all week!

Ministry like this does not happen without your help. Your prayers and financial support enabled over 18,000 children and youth to attend at least a week at one of our 40 camp ministries. Thank you for responding with such generosity when we shared our financial need in the spring. What a great encouragement when God’s people unite to support His work!

With September 30th as our fiscal year-end, we are asking God for funds to have a balanced budget. Due in part to the increased expenses because of the Canada Summer Job Grant problem, we still need $56,000. The good news: this is less than anticipated!

I am asking if you will help us finish this fiscal year in the black, so we do not draw down our contingency fund, as we continue reaching the youngest generation with the Gospel.

Thank you for prayerfully considering what God would have you do.
